With an eye on 2013 GoGeomatics Canada is looking at the events taking place you should consider attending. Conferences and geomatics events are good for your career health. Geomatics technology is constantly changing and it behooves us all to keep our skills up to date. Other good reasons to attend events are to network and get a feel for where our discipline is going; not to mention gauge the health of our industry first hand. Keep an eye on who the exhibitors are and the sponsors. Healthy growing geomatics companies and organizations support events in our industry.

IEEE Radar Conference: The Arctic – The New Frontier

This conference looks like it’s shaping up to be one of the premier remote sensing events in North America. If you are interested in Radar you are going to want to be there. This year’s conference site is Canada’s newest meeting place – the Ottawa Convention Centre (OCC). Opened in April, 2011. The theme is sharply defined with a northern focus as we can tell from the title we hope they put their program out soon so we can learn more.

This event is a must attend event for Canadian surveyors. The Association of Canada Land Surveyors (ACLS) and the Professional Surveyors Canada have teamed up on this event. The keynote speaker is Summer Mortimer, a Para-Olympian swimmer who won four medals at the London 2012 Games

The surveyors have put together an interesting program. There are some technical talks, business, and career development you will want to check out.

CoastGIS is a biennial series of symposia that brings together practitioners and researchers in the field of marine and coastal Geographic Information Systems, remote sensing and computer cartography. These are fascinating subjects for all of us in geomatics and would be a benefit to attend this event for anyone in our industry.
