Role Overview

Reporting to the Manager, Data & Geographic Information Systems (Exploration), the GIS Administrator will be responsible for the update and validation of all spatial datasets collected or purchased by the regional exploration offices in North America. Also, as part of the Geo-Information group, this position will assist with the development and implementation of new spatial information systems for the exploration department.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Spatial Data Collection: works with regional geological surveys (and other data providers) to acquire spatial datasets for regional exploration projects company wide.
  • GIS QA/QC: validates all Exploration spatial datasets (raster and vector).
  • Geodatabase administration: maintains and supports current Exploration geodatabases – local (File GDB) and corporate (ArcSDE).
  • Satellite Images Administration: collection, correction and sub-product generation from Landsat, Aster, and Worldview products (among others).
  • Geoportal Administration: management of the exploration ArcGIS Online portal including data updates, user management and application development.
  • Develops standards and procedures for the Geo-Information group.
  • Provides software support where and when required.
  • Prepares training materials and tutorials, as well as providing software training to users.
  • Other related duties as required, including travel (up to 30%).

Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications and Experience:

  • Experience in similar role (5 years+).
  • Professional background in geology, geography, or a related discipline.
  • Existing Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo) registration or ability to attain.
  • Strong knowledge of mineral exploration workflows (Field Sampling/Mapping, Core Logging, Drafting).
  • Knowledge of mineral claims management workflows.
  • Knowledge of satellite images manipulation and administration.
  • Strong proficiency with ArcGIS (ArcSDE), ArcMap, ArcGIs Pro, ArcGIS Field App, Survey123, etc.
  • Experience configuring and customizing web applications (ArcGIS Online).
  • Experience writing protocols and procedures for spatial data management.
  • Experience in designing and delivering training is an asset.
  • Knowledge of software packages and applications such as MapInfo, AutoCAD, Geosoft Target, Leapfrog, Micromine, Acquire and SharePoint are considered assets.
  • Python and SQL programming skills will be considered an asset.
  • Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with other employees and contractors using tact, courtesy, and good judgment.
