Group Leader Roles

Toronto, Kingston, Kitchener and Edmonton

Currently, there are group leaders for these cities, and we are looking to grow our teams. You will be joining other group leaders within your city.

As part of a team, group leaders help organize, promote, and lead our networking socials in cities across Canada. GoGeomatics hosts Canada’s largest and most popular geospatial networking events. With the help of our group leaders, we provide places for geospatial professionals across the country to network with their peers in a fun social environment.

There are now 12 GoGeomatics networking groups in Canada.

GoGeomatics is looking for a new member of the leadership team. You could be a student, new graduate or seasoned geospatial professional. Leaders come from all walks of life. GoGeomatics Group leaders are enthusiastic, have a passion for geomatics, and love meeting new people.  With the help of GoGeomatics, group leaders are responsible for the following tasks:

  • Group leaders take turns running and attending the networking events from September – May
  • Making participants feel welcome, socializing and creating a positive environment
  • Finding suitable venues and making reservations
  • Announcing the socials on Meetup
  • Introducing guest speakers when applicable, and helping to set up their presentations

The commitment is about 4-5 hours per month. Most of that spent networking at the social.

As much as possible, our group leaders work in teams of two or more.

What are GoGeomatics Socials?

The purpose of GoGeomatics Socials is to build a thriving geospatial community through networking opportunities.  We all love to chat about all things geo like surveying, GIS, remote sensing and more. Enjoy your favourite beverage and meet new people at these friendly informal regular get-togethers. You will meet professionals, students, business owners, entrepreneurs, and potentially recruiters at these events. They are held in pubs across Canada to promote an open and casual environment without the intimidation and cost of more formal networking events. They are always free, and open to people from all areas of geomatics.

The Benefits of Being a Group Leader

Being a Group Leader can bring both personal and professional rewards. You’ll gain leadership skills and volunteer experience. As well, you’ll benefit from all the networking opportunities. GoGeomatics networking events are often visited by managers and even recruiters from some of the top geomatics companies and organizations in Canada; some of our previous group leaders have landed jobs as a direct result of GoGeomatics Socials. Companies like to hire leaders. Are you a leader?
