Twitter Milestones and Social Media Management

GoGeomatics has just reached a milestone on our Twitter account: We now have over 5,000 Twitter followers!

We have to send out a big thank you to all our readers and followers. We could never have come this far without your support, mentions, and retweets.

We’re proud to have one of the strongest Twitter followings in the Canadian geospatial sector, even catching up to some major players. It hasn’t been easy – getting to this point has taken a lot of time, patience, and dedication. But we’ve learned a lot along the way, and we’ve become the social media experts in the Canadian geospatial community. Twitter isn’t the only place we’re making waves either. Our GoGeomatics LinkedIn group is nearly at 4,000 members as well!

Social Media? My Kid Could Do That!

What_Twitter

There’s a common misconception out there that social media is easy, and anyone can grow a successful following. In reality, that’s a bit like saying your kid could produce a Jackson Pollock painting. Yes, the tools are accessible and easy-to-use, but without a solid strategy, it’s just blobs on canvas – or in this case, messages floating in the void of the twittersphere.

We’ve seen a lot of organizations that aren’t getting all the benefits that they could out of social media. Just because you have social media channels doesn’t mean you have a communications strategy in place to get the most out of your social media network.

Social media management is a full-time job, with accompanying skill-sets and professional strategies. It is much more than tweeting or posting about a funny cat video – it’s about getting your message in front of an engaged audience who wants to hear from you. It’s about staying in touch, reaching an untapped demographic, starting a conversation, and creating a recognizable brand.
