3rd Annual Feb 7th UBC Master of Geomatics for Environmental Management Career Networking Event

My name is Trevor Jones and I coordinate the Master of Geomatics for Environmental Management (MGEM) Program.  On behalf of the MGEM Program, I’d like to invite you to our 3rd annual Geomatics Career Networking Event – please mark your calendars for the afternoon of Friday February 7 (1:00-3:30 pm)

The MGEM is a 9 month course-based Masters program which provides the blend of quantitative geospatial skills and landscape ecology needed to tackle a wide range of pressing environmental management challenges.  Now in our third year, our graduates have gone on to apply their skills across many sectors, including government, NGOs, private, commercial, consulting, and academia.

Our 3rd annual Geomatics Career Networking Event is an opportunity for organizations which use geomatics to meet soon-to-be Masters-level (or higher) graduates.  Last year we were joined by 9 organizations – each provided a brief overview, including how they use geomatics and current or upcoming volunteering, internship or employment opportunities.  These included:

  • Cansel Survey Equipment
  • City of Vancouver
  • Ecora
  • First Resource Management Group
  • FortisBC
  • FYBR
  • Esri Canada
  • Western Forest Products
  • SNC- Lavalin Inc.

Following the overviews, each organization had a table and plenty of time to interact with 50 soon-to-be graduates from Masters-level (or higher) programs from across Vancouver.

This year we hope to have even more attendees – both prospective employers and students.   If you are interested in attending, please contact to my colleague Lee Yupitun. Lee.Yupitun@ubc.ca Lee is helping organize the event and can provide full details re: logistics.   If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate in reaching out.
