Ontario: NEONet is receiving $500,000 for a GIS Mapping Project Involving 20 Communities

Bulletin: Supporting Economic Development in Timmins Region

Ontario Creating Jobs, Strengthening Northern Economy

Ontario is helping to build a stronger, more diverse northern economy while creating jobs in the Timmins area.

With nearly $1.4 million in support from the province’s Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC), seven projects in the Timmins region are boosting the regional economy, and creating 34 jobs.  Projects include:

  • NEONet is receiving $500,000 for a GIS mapping project involving 20 communities in the Northeast.
  • Precision Boring in Timmins is receiving $322,500 to expand a building and purchase equipment for the machine and fabrication shop, creating four jobs.
  • The Timmins Economic Development Corporation is receiving $235,100 for a three‑year mining supply and industrial mineral investment attraction regional project, leading to the creation of 20 jobs.
  • The Mushkegowuk Council is receiving $125,100 to increase the use of GIS and information management systems among its member First Nations, creating two jobs.
  • Great White North Technology Consulting is receiving $125,000 to offer business solutions and technology support services, creating five jobs.
  • SRB Contracting is receiving $32,500 to provide general contracting and carpentry services, creating two jobs.
  • Truax Counselling Services is receiving $25,000 to offer counselling and mental health services, creating one job.

Supporting local infrastructure and community development is part of the government’s economic plan that is creating jobs for today and tomorrow. The comprehensive plan and its six priorities focus on Ontario’s greatest strengths — its people and strategic partnerships.

  • Since 2003, the NOHFC has invested $930 million in 6,055 projects in Northern Ontario, creating or sustaining more than 23,400 jobs.
  • In the Timmins-James Bay region since 2003, the NOHFC has invested $68 million in 590 projects, creating or sustaining more than 1,780 jobs.
