An Invitation to Younger (and Older) Geospatial Professionals

A core group of Younger Geospatial Professionals (YGPs) would like to take this opportunity to invite you, regardless of your age, to join (see below) this early start-up organization.

As we all know, the geospatial professions (particularly geomatics) is facing a major loss in leadership as the baby boomer generation is now retiring. There is a relatively short window of opportunity for these experienced professionals to pass on their knowledge to the younger generations, and vice versa.

As a way of starting to informally organize, the YGPs have established the Younger Geospatial Professional Group on LinkedIn. Please do not let the name confuse you; we want geospatial professionals of all ages to join. That is how we are going to establish the dialogue and support each other on this journey.

As the founder of Lidar News (LN), I am celebrating 50 years in the geospatial and geomatics professions. For the remainder of my career, I am dedicating my efforts to working with YGPs to support their development and assumption of leadership roles in the geospatial industries.

One initiative that we began last year was the LN YGP Spotlight Interview. We are receiving interest in this effort from around the world. If you know a young professional (under 35) in the geospatial business that would be a good candidate for an LN Spotlight Interview, please recommend them or have them contact us at editor@lidarnews.com.

We have a number of exciting projects that we are working on, so please join the LinkedIn group so you can stay informed and tell a friend.

Thank you in advance for your support, and if we can be of help in any way with your career, please let us know. We look forward to hearing from you.
