Canada’s Best and Brightest: Teams Announced for 2019 National Geomatics Competition in Calgary

It’s that time of year once again: time for the National Geomatics Competition!

The National Geomatics Competition (NGC) is Canada’s student-led geomatics competition. The NGC was created to increase the visibility of the geomatics profession, give students an opportunity to showcase their knowledge and talents while networking with potential employers, and inspire the next generation of Geomatics engineers; this year’s theme is “Innovating Earth”, which reflects on the fact that innovation and technology are at the forefront of the geomatics industry.

After last year’s successful inaugural event in Fredericton, this year’s competition will be hosted in collaboration with the annual GESS Geomatics Exposition and take place in Calgary, Alberta. The City of Calgary and the University of Calgary have long served as important hubs for geospatial innovation, and the location of this year’s competition in the Engineering Complex of the university is close to many local attractions, restaurants and other points of interest–with some transportation being provided by the NGC Organizing Committee and volunteers.

Just like last year GoGeomatics will turn over our Twitter account to the Competition for the duration of the event.  That’s just next week!  Our 10,000 Twitter followers can follow along during the competition as the event progresses. Follow us here https://twitter.com/GoGeomatics

GoGeomatics is the media sponsor for the event and we will also be holding a special Meetup on Friday, February 22, 2019, at Kilkenny’s Irish Pub with the participants and sponsors. Please join students, professionals, and competitors for food and drinks, ice-breaker games, and special guest Jonathan Murphy, Founder of GoGeomatics Canada and GeoIgnite. RSVP on the Meetup page if you wish to attend!

More information on the National Geomatics Competition can be found on the event website. Find out who will be attending and participating in the competition below!
