DESCRIPTION:When is GIS Days? November 15 – 19\, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day (come and go as you please) \nWhat is GIS Days? GIS Days offer you the chance to learn more about geography\, mapping and real-world applications of GIS that impact our communities. Drop in and out depending on what presentations pique your interest and listen to presenters from around the world. \nWho can attend? Everyone from anywhere in the world is welcome to attend GIS Days\, whether you’re a high school student\, university staff\, faculty\, graduate\, undergraduate or community member. Not technical? That’s okay\, presentations will be offered by a variety of speakers ranging from GIS professionals to GIS newbies. Short lightning talks (7-min) offer you a quick taste of a topic\, while longer demonstrations (20-min) and tutorials (1-hr) provide a deeper dive into a GIS project or software. \nGIS Days 2021 is truly a global event\, with presenters joining us (virtually) from South Korea\, Scotland\, Northwest Territories Canada\, and more! Presentation topics range from the Geography of Pokémon Go to underwater gliders\, from COVID-19 dashboards to galaxy mapping. \nThe event is entirely free to attend and will include virtual door prizes\, as well as prizes for the Geography-Themed Trivia evening. \nTo learn more click here

DESCRIPTION:This year\, Licker Geospatial Consulting Co. (LGeo) is celebrating GIS Day by hosting our very own Mapathon! Here are the quick details: \nWhere: Online. Register Here\, opens September 3\, 2021. \nWhen: November 16\, 2021. Opening \n\n\nCeremonies commence at 9AM PST \n\n\nRound 1 starts at 10AM PST \n\n\nRound 2 starts at 12PM PST \n\n\nWho: Anyone! This event is open to the public\, and suitable to anyone wishing to develop and test their mapping skills. Participants will compete in cohorts with similar skill levels. This is a great opportunity for students to show off their skills\, and for professionals to flex their creative muscles. \nHow: Use any software available to you. We will provide the data\, but we cannot provide the tools. \nWhy: Prizes! Glory! Bragging rights\, networking\, and an excuse to map! \nThis all day mapping event is open to the public\, students and professionals alike. Register today! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTHE FORMAT\nROUND 1 – SIGNATURE CHALLENGE – 10AM – 11:30AM PST \nThe signature challenge is an opportunity for contestants to show off their tried and true mapping style. Contestants will be provided with all the data ready to go\, and will have one and a half hours to create a visually stunning map and layout. \nROUND 2 – SHOWSTOPPER – 12PM – 3:00PM PST \nThe showstopper challenge requires contestants to pull out their technical knowledge and combine it with their aesthetic skills. Contestants will be given a theme and the data with minimal instructions\, and will be required to create a map in three hours. This event will test the competitors eye for style\, technical knowledge\, and speed. \nComplete rules and data packages will be sent out day of the competition as well as a link to the opening ceremonies\, to the email you register with. \nThe best all around map in each cohort will win a prize every round\, meaning 4 prizes total. Each first place prize will receive $250. Judging will be done by industry professionals – stay tuned to find out who! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe encourage organizations to sign up their members for some healthy intra-team competition\, and for individuals to see how they stack up.
