SUMMARY:All About ESRI's Community Map of Canada (by Canadian Open Data Society)
DESCRIPTION:This month we are pleased to feature Alia Kotb\, Community Maps Advocate for ESRI Canada\, connecting Canadian communities through a base map evolution. \nAlia Kotb is Esri Canada’s Community Maps Advocate. She steers communities to enrich their GIS offering with the Community Map of Canada to better serve their constituents and stakeholders. She prefers using an energized approach to challenges\, exploring solutions with a curious disposition rather than simply applying routine processes. Alia has been in the GIS industry for more than 10 years. With an MBA in International Business and a BA in Journalism and Mass Communication\, she is a journalist at heart who always likes to ask “why” and “what if” to uncover deeper insights to problems. Outside of work\, Alia is an avid traveller and you’ll always find a book in her bag. \nThe Community Map of Canada is a basemap of Canada built from authoritative data\, collected closest to source and updated daily. Seamlessly created to one common specification and compliant with international standards\, it provides unrestricted access to community maps and imagery across the country. \nAlia will be describing this program and highlighting the value of Open Data in Canada to its successful operation for the benefit of all Canadians.

SUMMARY:A Roadmap for Data Across Canada & Data Liberation Matters
DESCRIPTION:Two Great Sessions / Présentation de deux grandes sessions ‘A Roadmap for Data Across Canada’ & ‘Data Liberation Matters’\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this event\n\n\nThe Society’s learning opportunity this month includes a pair of sessions from the Canadian Open Data Summit\, that we are pleased to re-present for all our members and subscribers. \n(Français ci-dessous) \nA Roadmap for Open Data Across Canada is presented in English by Steve Czajka\, Manager\, Smart City at City of Mississauga. It will lay out a vision for how all orders of government across Canada can start to align on data. Subtopics will include: data governance\, unified data platforms\, open data\, data trusts\, and blockchain. This presentation is also a call to action for all cities across Canada to collaborate on data\, as it underpins our economic transformation and represents an enormous asset. \nData Liberation Matters is presented bilingually by Chantal Goyette\, Directrice\, Développement des données et rapports chez Dirigeant Principal des données\, Immigration\, Réfugiés et Citoyenneté Canada\, and Lorna Jantzen\, Assistant Director of Data Partnerships at the Chief Data Officer Branch of Immigration\, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). It will demonstrate how Immigration\, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has made public its aggregate and micro (disaggregated) data to inform the general public and the research community. IRCC data\, refreshed monthly\, have long constituted the majority of top most accessed data on Canada’s Open Data Portal. The aspiration of the presenters is to promote further liberation of data collected by the federal and provincial public services\, and the integration of interdepartmental and interjurisdictional data for more effective public policies\, monitoring policy outcomes\, and greater transparency for stronger public trust in public institutions. \nRegister today to learn\, connect\, and respond to these powerful calls to action! \nWhen: 12 to 1 p.m.
