The educators’ main concerns at that time were focused on surveying instruction in civil engineering programs and the lack of a national presence for the surveying profession. Since then numerous conferences have taken place. \nSaGES was born from the surveying educators’ conferences in 2009\, continuing the “spirit of Rainy Lake.” The feeling was that the educators should have a formal society to help with the organization of the conference. The society would also help in increasing the conference attendance\, seek for collaborations\, formally represent educators in other professional organizations\, and create better means for addressing the important challenges in surveying education.

His background in CAD design\, petroleum land administration\, and geomatics sales makes him an excellent mentor and leader for our Calgary geomatics community. \n### George Petropoulos \nGeorge is a GIS Technician and Supervisor with hands-on experience in field surveying\, mapping production\, and geospatial data analysis. His background includes working with Silvatech Consulting Ltd. on BC’s Waste and Residue program\, where he supervised mapping projects and implemented efficiencies in production workflows. With a Bachelor of Science in Geography (Geomatics focus) from the University of Victoria\, George brings a strong foundation in GIS\, remote sensing\, and city planning\, making him a valuable addition to our group leadership. \n?
