SUMMARY:The Open Geospatial Consortium Technical Committee Meeting - Banff Alberta
DESCRIPTION:Come and join us for the 112th OGC Technical Committee meeting. This will be an amazing week with a broad range of meetings and topics being discussed. You don’t have to be an OGC member to attend an OGC meeting. Whilst some meetings will be member only\, many are open to anyone to attend and new voices are always welcome. \nVisit the event website here http://ogcmeet.org/ \nOGC standards are implemented worldwide to make it easier to rapidly integrate and mobilize location information and technologies to improve decision making. OGC standards also help reduce IT lifecycle costs by drastically reducing custom integration effort. By making it easier to integrate and apply diverse sources of location information\, OGC standards help make air travel safe\, improve weather predictions\, warn of imminent disasters\, respond to emergencies\, support city planning and operations\, and provide citizens and consumers with helpful mobile apps. \nOGC\, as a standard developing organization\, provides a stable baseline for innovation. Innovation and standards appear to be opposing ideas\, but\, the two ideas work together to prevent the extremes of technological stagnation and disorder. Standards bring order to the disarray of the implementations of new ideas and provides a baseline for innovation to flourish. That innovation\, in turn\, feeds the creation of new ccand updated standards. \nThis TC Meeting will be held at a conference facility with an attached hotel space. Attendees are encouraged to use the hotel room block or an additional fee of $60 CAD per day will be added to your registration. \nThe Banff Conference Centre room block is available until 8 August 2019 at: \nhttps://book.b4checkin.com/chameleon/banffcentre/rlp/OGC1909 \nRooms start at $190 CAD + taxes per night. \nThis is a conference facility\, your daily participation package includes: \n\nguestroom (single sleeping room – larger rooms are available)\nlunch\nam and pm breaks\ncampus-wide Wi-Fi\nphone calls across North America\naccess to Sally Borden Fitness and Recreation facilities\nparking\naccess and borrowing privileges at The Banff Centre library and archives\nand access to complimentary arts and programmed events when available.\n\n$190 Canadian dollars per night plus applicable taxes in effect at the time of the program\, including 2% TIF\, 4% ATL\, and 5% GST. Breakfast is available for $22.25 + taxes. These rooms are only available until 8 August 2019. \nYou must have a Banff Conference Centre guestroom package for each day you will attend the TC meetings\, otherwise\, the conference facility and meal package fee of $60 USD per day will be added to your OGC registration. This will include the above list minus the sleeping room. \nPrior to registration\, you must reserve your guestroom and receive your confirmation code. You will be required to enter the Banff confirmation code in your meeting registration to receive your package discount. \nAny guests requesting for pre/post stay (before Sunday night or after Thursday night)\, additional room types and suites\, please contact the reservations department. \nReservations Department: (Open Monday through Friday) \nPhone number:\n+1 403 762 6100\n1-800-884-7574 (USA & Canada)\nEmail: Reservations@banffcentre.ca

SUMMARY:PCI Geomatics and Big Data Multi-Temporal Processing
DESCRIPTION:Save the date! Monday\, April 8\, 6p-8p. I am excited to announce that a representative from PCI Geomatics will be visiting Peterborough to present at the April GoGeomatics Meeting. The summary of the presentation is as follows: \nRemote Sensing is undergoing a major shift towards ubiquitous data collection and availability\, increasingly through open access. While collection frequency bodes well for future monitoring cadence\, archival images collected over the past decades remain difficult to work with due to pre-processing that’s required to refine raw data into calibrated\, precisely aligned image stacks. Find out what PCI Geomatics is doing to create technology that allows the automatic preparation of Analysis Ready Data that can populate an Open Data Cube. Custom algorithms or off the shelf applications such as Water Observation from Space (WOfS)\, or Continuous Change Detection and Classification (CCDC) can be deployed to answer key questions such as spatial and temporal flooding extent signatures\, or permanent land changes occurring due to vegetation breaks. Additional innovations and updates on PCI Technology will be presented. \nWe hope that you are able to attend. Please RSVP.

SUMMARY:Speaker Series: Ottawa Archaeology & Geospatial Social
DESCRIPTION:Join GoGeomatics Ottawa this March for some Roman Archaeology and GIS. \nTitle: ‘Seeing the Old with the New: The Advancing World of GIS\, History\, and Archaeology‘ \nThe relationship between history and GIS has existed in various fashions for years\, yet it has been in the last two decades where these conjoined fields have expanded exponentially. GIS has allowed old things to be seen in new ways from rediscovering lost settlements with remote sensing\, to recreating ancient cities in 3D design programs. \nFor his talk on this subject\, Alan will be discussing some historical projects that he completed and continues to work on since transitioning into geomatics with a focus on 3D reconstructions of ancient cities and geostatistical analysis of pottery artifacts from an archaeological dig outside of Rome. Alan will conclude with leading into where and in what way history and GIS can continue to work together now\, and into the future.

SUMMARY:Tailoring Your Geomatics Job Search: Perspectives from the Province
DESCRIPTION:I am excited to announce that James Britton\, the Manager for Mapping and Geomatics Services\, at the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry\, will be giving a presentation at the GoGeomatics Monthly Meetup on Monday\, February 11\, 2019\, from 6p – 8p at the Cork & Bean in Peterborough. The topic is ‘Tailoring Your Geomatics Job Search: Perspectives from the Province’. \nWhile it is not always recognized\, different types of organizations use different recruitment methods. As a result\, it is important that job hunters know how to adapt their search tactics. This presentation is a practical review of how recruiting typically happens within the Ontario Government Geomatics community. Based on many years of experience recruiting for Geomatics positions in the provincial government\, topics covered will include tools for discovering opportunities\, screening methods used and practical observations from the interviewer side of the interview table. \nWe hope that you will be able to attend. Please RSVP to let us know.
