SUMMARY:Hacking EdPlanning
DESCRIPTION:Hackathon: 48 hours to build digital solutions for educational planning \nEverything digital has penetrated teaching and learning – but it has yet to fully integrate into the field of educational planning and management. IIEP experts see great potential for computer science\, geospatial and big data\, and other types of technology to offer new solutions in the way education systems function and cater to the specific needs of the communities it serves. That’s why IIEP has teamed up with Latitudes\, a tech for good network organization\, to host Hacking EdPlanning\, the first-ever IIEP-UNESCO hackathon. \nFrom 29-31 January  2021\, this virtual hackathon will bring together developers and educational planners to create digital projects that could redefine educational planning practices. These innovative ideas – based on countries’ realities – would also offer new ways to support governments with meeting the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal for education (SDG 4). \nClosing event\nThe hackathon will close with an exciting opportunity – open to all – to see an online presentation of all of the digital tools created during the weekend. \nWhen: Sunday\, 31 January 2021\, 4pm UTC (Click here to see your time zone) / Where: Online

SUMMARY:Webinar: Modernization of the North American Reference System – The U.S. Plan and Canadian Impacts
DESCRIPTION:Register for this free online Webinar hosted by the Association of Canada Land Surveyors. \nThe U.S. is planning to modernize its spatial reference system\, possibly as early as 2024 or 2025. As part of this modernization they plan to update both their geometric reference system (the North American Datum of 1983 (NAD83))\, and their vertical reference system (the North American Vertical Datum of 1988 (NAVD 88)). These changes could have significant impacts for surveyors\, mappers\, and other geospatial professionals in Canada. For example\, the U.S. plans to replace NAD83 with a new North American Terrestrial Reference Frame (NATRF2022)\, creating 1.3 to 1.5 m horizontal coordinate differences at the Canada–U.S. border with respect to Canada’s NAD83(CSRS). Never before have such significant differences existed between our two countries’ reference frames. This webinar will outline the U.S. plan\, including their rationale\, and then look at Canada’s situation with respect to reference frames. There are compelling reasons for Canada to follow suit and modernize as well\, but there are also major challenges. Whether or not Canada follows the same path\, there is much work to be done to prepare Canada for the U.S.’ updates. Bio : Brian Donahue has been working with the Canadian Geodetic Survey\, Natural Resources Canada for the past 22 years and is currently the team leader of the Geodetic Integrated Services Unit. He is also the chair of the Canadian Geodetic Reference System Committee (CGRSC)\, a Federal-Provincial-Territorial working committee of the Canadian Council on Geomatics (CCOG)\, which is responsible for planning geodetic reference system improvements in Canada. \n  \nRegister here

SUMMARY:URBAN DIGITAL TWINS: geography\, planning and governance
DESCRIPTION:The Location Powers: Urban Digital Twins summit will convene experts on urban geography\, planning and governance; supported by civil engineering and BIM for design\, model and operation of physical infrastructure; along with data science\, machine learning\, cloud computing\, edge computing for information infrastructure. Cities ranging in size and economic prosperity are to be considered leading to recommendations supportive of urban development goals\, e.g.\, UN SDG. Success requires collaboration of multiple tiers of government\, the private sector\, public utilities\, building owners\, community groups\, etc. Several levels of scale in space and time will be considered\, from city dashboards for real time situational awareness (e.g.\, transportation) to scientific datasets and analysis (e.g.\, public health)\, on the scale of long term urban sustainability. \nClick here to visit the Website \nSUMMIT AGENDA\n\nSessions 1: Opening Keynotes and Digital Twin visions \nSessions 2: Tech depth and applications \nSessions 3: Recommendations\, Actions\, and workshop summary \nEach session will be convened twice\, once in western timezones and once in Eastern timezones. The themes of the two will be the same but the content will differ. Provision to connect the sessions will be undertaken.

SUMMARY:Open Aerial Imagery: Multi-Source Interpretation and Analysis
DESCRIPTION:Available on four separate dates\, the Open Aerial Imagery Association (OAIA) will host a free online and interactive seminar series for citizens of NATO countries. Attendees will have an opportunity to learn from aerial imagery leaders in the fields of intelligence analysis and humanitarian operations. The first focal topic covers how aerial imagery can assist in various humanitarian efforts by way of providing material and logistical assistance to people who need it\, such as the homeless\, refugees\, and victims of natural disasters\, wars and famines. The second demonstrates the relationship between aerial imagery and geospatial data for law enforcement agencies\, the police or other intelligence groups who use it in an effort to predict and prevent crime through mapping. And the final topic shows aerial imagery used as a tool to detect disinformation and hostile information\, which is a heightening problem on a global scale. \nFree 4-hour Live\, Online Seminar Series for citizens of NATO countries. November 25\, 2020; December 2\, 2020; December 9\, 2020; December 16\, 2020 at 1630 UTC (0830 Pacific\, 0930 Mountain\, 1130 Eastern).

SUMMARY:How to find GIS and Remote Sensing Jobs with the Government of Canada
DESCRIPTION:Andrew Davidson\, a scientist with the Canadian Government\, will talk about his experiences negotiating the minefield that can be the Government hiring process\, and the things you need to do when applying for that Government job. Have you ever applied for a job with the Government of Canada and wondered why you weren’t considered for future selection? Applying for Government jobs is tricky\, and rarely\, if ever\, does a rejected candidate receive feedback on why their application was rejected. However\, if you understand how selection processes work\, and what hiring managers are looking for in an application\, you stand a much better chance of finding success. \nThis is a free online Zoom event. \nThu\, December 10\, 2020\n8:00 PM – 9:30 PM EST \nTo Register for this event please go here \nWe will also explore future competencies and geomatics skills that you should acquire for the those future jobs. \nPlease register using on of our GoGeomatics online Meetup groups or using Eventbrite.  This is a free event but space is limited.
