Free online aerial imagery interpretation and analysis seminar series
CALGARY, AB – Available on four separate dates, the Open Aerial Imagery Association (OAIA) will host a free online and interactive seminar series for citizens of NATO countries.
Attendees will have an opportunity to learn from aerial imagery leaders in the fields of intelligence analysis and humanitarian operations. The first focal topic covers how aerial imagery can assist in various humanitarian efforts by way of providing material and logistical assistance to people who need it, such as the homeless, refugees, and victims of natural disasters, wars and famines. The second demonstrates the relationship between aerial imagery and geospatial data for law enforcement agencies, the police or other intelligence groups who use it in an effort to predict and prevent crime through mapping. And the final topic shows aerial imagery used as a tool to detect disinformation and hostile information, which is a heightening problem on a global scale.
“This is an event that can benefit a number of different groups including students and academics studying geospatial related topics, media reporters and influencers focusing on aerial imagery, the open-source intelligence community (OSINT) and so many more,” explains Chris Knight, Director of OAIA. “We’re thrilled to have an opportunity to educate, inform and share on this important subject matter.”
In support of its project, “Increasing Societal Resilience: Innovative Ways to Counter Disinformation, Hostile Information, Activities and Other Hybrid Threats”, The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) is sponsoring OAIA’s upcoming seminar series.
The online seminar is about four hours in length and there are four different dates registrants can choose from: November 25th, December 2nd, December 9th or December 16th, 2020 at 8:30am PST / 9:30am MST / 11:30am EST. Registration is quick and simple through a brief online form:

The OAIA is a not-for-profit organization in Calgary, Alberta that focuses on making aerial imagery widely accessible. With a volunteer-based roster of licensed aeroplane and RPAS pilots, OAIA flies private aircraft that capture aerial imagery which is then distributed through an online portal free of charge under a Creative Commons license. Be it a public, private, commercial or noncommercial user, their vision supports free use of the imagery for any purpose or project.
