Salary $67,418.93 – $77,019.79 annually

Innovation, Bioeconomy and Indigenous Opportunities branch (IBIO) guides and leads clean-tech innovation and cutting-edge wood-based bioproducts development for BC forest sector. We support BC Government mandate for improving post-harvest fibre utilization, developing BC’s innovative wood product sector and forest bioeconomy, and supporting the economic opportunities for Indigenous communities. We closely work with international and domestic high-tech leaders, forest industry and universities in R&D and commercialization of advanced bioproducts and high value applications in the areas such as additive manufacturing (3D printing), construction, automotive, and medical applications.

As the provincial government expert on the economics of, and on economic data available for, the British Columbia forest sector, the Biomass Economist develops, compiles, maintains and analyzes information and business intelligence on the forest products industry to support forest fibre utilization, innovation and bioeconomy development in British Columbia. This position compiles and manipulates large database, designs and implements economic modelling projects, and statistical analysis for the purpose of providing advice and reports used by government officials to make policy decisions affecting the forest sector of British Columbia.

Qualifications for this role include:

  • Master’s degree, preferably in Economics, Natural Resource Economics, Forestry, or a closely related field such as statistics, business/commerce, mathematics, or sustainable resource management plus one (1) years of related experience.

Related Experience must include:

  • Experience in large database, preferably in Geographic Information System (GIS) database manipulation and analysis.
  • Experience in Geographic Information System (GIS) applications.
  • Experience in the design and implementation of statistical analysis and economic modelling projects.
  • Directly related work experience in economics, business development or natural resource based research and analytics.
