  • Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and CAD Technician

Ventus Geospatial Inc. is seeking a GIS and Remote Sensing Technician for a full-time position starting June 2024. Under the general direction of the GIS Manager, the incumbent will perform a wide variety of duties to support the company’s operation and mission to provide high-quality spatial information products to their clients. The GIS and Remote Sensing Technician will primarily work with data acquired by Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) and other cutting-edge spatial technologies. The incumbent must competently carry out and complete the work using a variety of GIS, remote sensing application programs in an office or field setting. Common tasks include:

· Geoprocessing

· Data Management

· Data Acquisition

· Field Visits / Survey Tasks

· Visual Observer for UAS Flight Operations

· Occasional UAS Pilot Opportunities

· Spatial Analysis

· Photogrammetric Processing

· Aerial Imagery Interpretation

· Web / Digital / Hard-copy Map and Drawing Creation

Requirements

Applicants must have a college or university degree in Geographic Information Systems, Remote Sensing or a closely related field and competence working with spatial data in GIS and remote sensing environments and ArcGIS. The candidate is required to have a solid understanding of Surveying and Geomatics fundamentals. Minimum 1 year remote sensing, GIS-based work or land surveying experience (or equivalent) is required. Comparable combinations of education and experience may also be considered. Knowledge of Pix4D Mapper software and/or GNSS survey equipment is an asset. Possession of a valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence is preferred.

Compensation and Benefits

Starting salary range of $47,000 – $53,000

Health and dental benefits after probationary period.

Experience:

  • GIS or Surveying: 2 years (preferred)
