GIS/CAD Technician

The GIS/CAD Technician will be responsible for all facets of design drafting for our existing and perspective Utility clients.

Key Responsibilities

Complete design drawings, quantity calculations and as-built drawings for various types of utility projects using various software packages (e.g. AutoCAD, Microstation)
Support Project Designers with project documentation, design calculations and quality drawings
Create CAD drawings from concept to final design
Quality check drawings for mistakes
Assist in field surveys
Liaise with contractors, field staff
Ability to travel for projects
Performs other duties as required

Required Knowledge & Skills

Minimum of one to two years of AutoCAD drafting experience in the Telecommunications industry
Post-secondary education in Civil Engineering or Electrical or Architectural Technology diploma is preferred
Strong proficiency with AutoCAD software and experience customizing AutoCAD, scripts, tools and Menu’s
Must be proficient with Microstation and GIS
Experience with utility projects considered an asset
Proficient with the use of computers and software, including MS Office (Word, Excel)
Good understanding of how to read site plans
Excellent verbal, written and communication skills
Ability to work with minimal supervision
Self-motivated, ability to learn new skills, assume new responsibilities and work cooperatively in a team environment
Excellent safety and attendance record and previously demonstrated strong safety awareness
