Position Overview
Resumes are being accepted for the position of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Specialist – ERP in the Information Technology Department. Reporting to the Program Manger, GIS and Data, the key role of this position will be to engineer the GIS structures, models, content and services required in ArcGIS systems to support the Maximo implementation for Enterprise Asset Management.
The mandate of GIS services is to provide leadership and support to City departments enabling them to provide better service to the public through GIS technology services, innovation and guided by the goals and objectives of the City of Guelph Strategic Plan and committed to the Corporate Values of integrity, service, inclusion, wellness and learning. The candidate will aid in the achievement of the Community Vision – an inclusive, connected, prosperous city where we look after each other and our environment.
Key duties and responsibilities
- Responsible for design, delivery and support of Geospatial data management services and GIS projects.
- Maintain and customize third-party spatial applications and add-ons.
- Manage and maintain GIS-related system integration projects.
- Utilize industry best practices to ensure business continuity and continual improvement of corporate information systems.
- Develop and/or administer data interfaces with other applications, providing spatial data to data consumers when required.
- Work with other Business and Corporate Analysts to document, re-engineer and implement streamlined business processes and optimize corporate workflow.
- Work in conjunction with other technical staff to isolate, troubleshoot, resolve problems and administer corporate applications.
- Work on a range of GIS data management tasks, such as digitization and data conversions, verification of data sources and accuracy.
- Creation of Metadata
- Create web mapping content for the City’s intranet and internet GIS websites.
- Create GIS mapping products for a variety of business areas.
- Assist GIS users with licensing inquiries and issues.
- Conduct field work to assist operational units with data gathering and verification.
- Continuous learning fundamental to operating a high-functioning GIS environment.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications and requirements
- Experience related to the duties listed above, normally acquired through the completion of a university degree in Computer Science, Civil Engineering, Geomatics, GIS Environmental Management or a related discipline and considerable experience supporting GIS and related systems in a medium to large sized corporate environment, preferably in a municipal setting. Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Demonstrated knowledge of digital map production, data management and GIS analysis.
- Familiarity with GIS concepts in raster and vector data models, map projections, scale and resolution, accuracy and precision.
- Working knowledge of ArcGIS software and its associated modules, and Windows operating systems.
- Analytical, problem solving and technical skills to manage, maintain, update and prepare data and to resolve technical problems and information requirements by gathering/analyzing data.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills to support the preparation of reports, correspondence, spatial analysis, resource queries, standard and customized map and information products and presentations.
- Interpersonal and teamwork skills to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team and with staff clients.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize/work within tight deadlines.
- Working knowledge of computer software packages Microsoft Office products including MS-Excel and MS Word.
- Experience with industry standards and best practices for municipal enterprise asset management and work management processes.
- Ability to influence and communicate with all levels of staff and stakeholders.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
- Ability to work well under pressure, take initiative and work under minimal supervision.
- Discretion, good judgement, diplomacy and confidentiality in all aspects of work.
- Experience integrating work and asset management systems with other enterprise systems such as ERP, EAM, HR, GIS is an asset.
- Experience with IBM Maximo is an asset.

Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM
Pay/Salary
Non-Union Grade: 4: $41.40-$51.71 per hour
