Esri Canada has an immediate need for a GIS Strategic Advisor, who will focus on enterprise business solution projects. Reporting to the Advantage Program (AP) Manager, the GIS Strategic Advisor will use their consultative experience and knowledge of Esri software to partner with AP customer stakeholders in defining and achieving their business and technical vision. The Strategic Advisor will lead a collaborative team analyzing customer objectives and designing solutions with a focus on GIS strategic planning, including Technical Road Maps, Information Management and Governance, Organizational Design, Application Rationalization and GIS Business Process Optimization.

In summary, the GIS Strategic Advisor will function as a trusted partner with assigned AP customers. The Advisor will develop an understanding of AP corporate business challenges, and work in synergy with customer stakeholders to enhance utilization of Esri’s GIS technology in all aspects of their business. The Advisor will utilize their expert-level knowledge of Esri technology, coupled with proven strengths in consulting, to build exceptional business relationships with our AP customer base.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Build customer relationships and serve as an Esri Canada trusted advisor/advocate for AP customers
  • Advise customers on relevant GIS strategies, architectures, product selection, and release planning
  • Provide proactive expertise in user needs analysis, estimation, design, development, and implementation of Enterprise GIS solutions
  • Perform facilitation during technical presentations, workshops, and demonstrations
  • Engage other Consultants, Solution Architects and Subject Matter Expert’s to deliver specific tasks identified under the program
  • Identify customers’ vision, goals, and objectives to help them achieve measurable results
  • Lead annual customer planning sessions and GIS system environment reviews
  • Develop, maintain, and update annual High-Level Work Plans for each customer
  • Lead the development of Task Orders and/or documentation
  • Hold monthly status meetings with each AP customer
  • Prepare AP progress reports and provide input for internal reporting
  • Oversee Strategic Advisory hours and AP Learning and Services Credits to maximize value and benefit to the customer
  • Align Esri’s technology platform with customers’ organizational business needs
  • Understand how Esri’s technology integrates/interfaces with customer’s enterprise solution
  • Actively engage and support the sales team to advance the value proposition and sale of the  Advantage Program

Specific skill requirements:

  • 3+ years of consultative engagement experience. Proven ability to develop synergetic relationships with key customer stakeholders
  • Proactive, creative and team-oriented. Strong problem-solving skills combined with the ability to develop new ideas and conceptualize new approaches and solutions. Able to motivate, coordinate and lead a group of multidisciplinary team members
  • 5 or more years’ experience implementing or applying GIS concepts using Esri technology in various customer environments
  • Strong knowledge/experience with Esri Enterprise software offerings in desktop, server, and online/web technologies
  • Proven ability managing internal and external resources for small to medium sized projects
  • Ability to work on multiple activities/projects simultaneously and the ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks
  • Post-secondary education in Geography, Geology, Business, Computer Science or Engineering. MBA or post graduate certificate in GIS or related discipline is an asset
  • Occasional business travel is required

 Competencies in the following are essential:

  • Business Analysis experience – skilled in requirements elicitation, process modelling, business process improvement, knowledge transfer, meeting facilitation and support
  • Change Management experience – ability to plan, minimize disruption, and improve likeliness of customer success
  • Demonstrated awareness of emerging IT trends and directions
