York Region is looking for a GIS Technologist to advance our program. You intrinsically know that working well with people is the key to working with data. WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

Every day, you will drive our aspiration to master ‘quality data’, collaborating and working with stakeholders and following the corporate strategic leadership, planning and directions related to this function. You will prepare and document statement of business requirements and user needs. You will assist senior staff in specification, design, development, installation, testing and documentation of applications and data architecture. You will research, digitize, process, and annotate spatial data, including integration from external stakeholders. You will design and prepare cartographic products, other spatial data products, graphics, and presentations. You will develop, maintain, and integrate spatial databases, attributes, and metadata. You will perform analysis and modelling of spatial data relationships; evaluates and documents results. You will create linkages between spatial data and client’s business data. You will perform Web administration including Web server configuration and performance monitoring. You will monitor Web and software license usage and prepares reports, as required. You will respond to inquiries and resolves concerns, as appropriate. You will ensure that services provided meet Regional customer service standards. You will participate on committees, work groups, task forces and projects, as assigned. You will manage Manages information in accordance with legislation and corporate standards. Here, you will help shape and serve the growing community in which we live and work.

WHAT GETS YOU CONSIDERED

You have a University Degree in Geographic Information Systems, Environmental Science, Computer Science, or equivalent program. You have a minimum 1 year of experience working with GIS and the development of cartographic and analytic products, including web services and applications, and user requirements and/or spatial information management. You have experience working with relational database management, spatial databases, and data visualization tools. You have demonstrated knowledge of GIS principles and use of ESRI’s GIS software and techniques, including ArcGIS Desktop. You have knowledge of of relational database systems, spatial data creation methods and techniques and spatial product delivery design and production.  You have working knowledge of programming languages. You have an understanding/experience of QA/QC principles and data integrity issues. You have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. You can communicate well – spoken and written, and use communications tools effectively.
