Junior Environmental Professional

Dillon is a well-established, employee-owned professional consulting firm operating across Canada and internationally.  We provide a wide range of consulting and design services related to the infrastructure, real estate, resource, industrial and government sectors in Canada and abroad.

We are currently seeking candidates for the position of Junior Environmental Professionals in our Edmonton, Alberta office.

Responsibilities

  • Completion of environmental field activities on Phase I, II & III ESAs, soil and groundwater sampling, surface water and sediment sampling, soil vapour sampling, and remediation projects
  • Coordination of environmental projects including hydrogeological studies, environmental site assessments (ESAs), ongoing monitoring programs, and site remediation projects
  • Coordination with laboratories, clients, subcontractors, third-party stakeholders
  • Monitoring, maintenance, evaluation, and trouble-shooting of remedial treatment systems
  • Development and implementation of environmental site assessment scopes of work and related health and safety plans
  • Compilation and analysis of data including: data tables, borehole logs, test pit logs, GIS/CAD, spreadsheet calculations, figures.
  • Assistance in report writing and preparation of technical memos, letters, reports and proposals
  • Assistance with project managers and other team members, including geoscientists, biologists, engineers, planners, and environmental scientists
  • Coordination and management of project tasks, budgets and schedules
  • Compliance with applicable health and safety procedures and guidelines
  • Ability to work remotely
  • Business travel upon request

Qualifications

  • Committed to a culture of quality including keen attention to detail
  • A degree in geology, civil or environmental engineering, hydrogeology, or another relevant environmental science or engineering discipline
  • Licensed or eligible for Licensure to practice as an environmental professional as recognized by Alberta Environment and Parks
  • Available to work in remote locations
  • Strong work ethic with an interest in field work
  • Experience with off-road vehicles an asset
  • Ground Disturbance Training is an asset
  • Experience in environmental consulting is an asset
  • Valid Driver’s License

Experience

  • Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication, and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated abilities to work in multidisciplinary team and independently
  • Exceptional problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Knowledge in several of: geology, hydrogeology, field procedures, basic chemistry, contracting/construction, chemistry, geotechnical concerns, geology, hydrogeology, remediation engineering, site characterization, waste management, landfill design, health and safety will be considered an asset
  • Experience working around heavy equipment, including drill rigs and excavators
  • Ability to proactively identify and address concerns that may arise when completing fieldwork
  • Knowledge of relevant provincial, and federal environmental legislation and policies will be considered an asset
  • Strong working knowledge of the Microsoft Office family of products
  • Knowledge/background or proficiency in several of: AUTOCAD, GIS, Surfer, GINT or database abilities will be an asset
