DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

We are seeking a Junior GIS Analyst to provide GIS support to business units and participate in the continuing implementation and support of a corporate GIS strategy to deliver accurate and reliable geographic data.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Preparation and delivery of GIS figures for our Sustainable Communities and Public Infrastructure reporting;
  • Gather, compile, migrate and convert data sets for project needs from a variety of internal and external sources;
  • Research, update and maintain numerous internal and external GIS datasets and templates in ArcGIS;
  • Evaluate data from multiple sources to determine the quality and ensure data is clean and accurate;
  • Scripting workflow efficiencies and new deliverables; and
  • Support the business units by providing GIS, mapping, and spatial data management support.

Qualifications:

  • Degree or Diploma in Geographic Information Systems, Geomatics Engineering, Geomatics Sciences, or Environmental Geomatics;
  • Up to 2 year’s work-related GIS experience, preferred;
  • Proficiency in ESRI GIS software ArcMap 10.x;
  • Experience in data conversion, database management, GIS digitization, analysis and geoprocessing;
  • Thorough understanding of geodetic principles, including map projections, datums and the associated projection and transformation methodologies;
  • Experience in the utilization and manipulation of raster datasets such as satellite imagery, orthophotography and LIDAR;
  • Experience using python, VBA in ArcMap and SQL;
  • Demonstrated ability producing presentation material and applying cartographic principals;
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
  • Ability to work effectively independently or as part of a team;
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to demonstrate excellent verbal, written and interpersonal relationship skills;
  • Highly organized with strong time-management skills, priority setting and the capability of multi-tasking; and
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and have access to a vehicle with valid registration and insurance.

    The following experience is considered an asset:

  • Experience and working knowledge of AutoCAD
  • LIDAR and UAV processing
  • Workflow optimization and custom tool development
  • Experience with online/web mapping
