September 11th 2013 Canadian Geomatics Merx Report

GoGeomatics Canada has started a series of articles on the current geospatial related contracts available on MERX.  This is our second installment. MERX’s publishes a lot of opportunities for doing business relating to geomatics with many levels of government.  For those of you who do not know what MERX is here is an explanation from the MERX website:

GROUND PENETRATING RADAR SURVEY

The purpose of the GPR Study is to provide researchers at the Geological Survey of Canada with information and data regarding the context, nature and extent of materials and deposits present in the subsurface at the Ripley Landslide Site, located near Ashcroft, British Columbia. For this particular study, subsurface data must be collected at the site through the application of geophysical techniques, including GPR. The GSC and their partners will use the resultant data to model and better understand the 3D-configuration of the landslide, and the processes contributing to the slope instability. The EM data will be compared to information collected by other geophysical techniques and methods, in addition to data derived from field observations, image interpretation, drilling logs, etc. The contractor will indicate the estimated depth of penetration below ground surface expected by their study.
The contractor is expected to deploy an GPR study at the Ripley Landslide site according to industry acceptable technical standards. The task involves the implementation of several geophysical transect lines at the site.

National Floodplain MAPPING Assessment

Public Safety Canada (PS) is currently discussing the development of a National Disaster Mitigation Program. This program would seek to reduce the risks of natural hazards in Canada. Currently, the most costly hazard in Canada is overland flooding. As such, PS is seeking to assess the current state of flood plain maps in Canada, in order to help inform potential mitigation activities. In support of this objective, PS is seeking three deliverables: 1) A report on international flood MAPPING practices and a recommended standard; 2) An assessment report on the current state of flood plain MAPPING in Canada; 3) A costing report on requirement to bring current Canadian flood plain maps up to a recommended standard.
