There is a new opportunity for GIS and geomatics professionals in Regina to get together, reconnect with colleagues, and meet others working in the field.
These are free networking events in a causal atmosphere. People show up and chat with each other over drinks and or a meal.

Local geospatial professional Robert Danforth is organizing a GoGeomatics meetup in the city this spring. Danforth is an Enterprise GIS Administrator with the Government of Saskatchewan’s Ministry of SaskBuilds and Procurement, where he works within the Saskatchewan Office of Geomatics Coordination.
The idea came to Danforth after attending a recent GIS gathering in the city where the conversation turned to GoGeomatics and the role its meetups once played in bringing the local community together.
“I attended a recent GIS meetup in Regina where the conversation turned to GoGeomatics and how those events used to bring people together locally,” said Danforth. “I thought it would be great to create a space where GIS professionals in Regina could meet, connect, and network again.”
Danforth hopes the meetup will attract a mix of people from across the region’s geospatial community.
“There are a lot of GIS professionals working across provincial government, crown corporations, and the university community,” he said. “It would be great to see people from all those groups come out and get to know each other.”
Jonathan Murphy, founder of GoGeomatics Canada, says initiatives like this are how many of the country’s meetup groups begin.

“GoGeomatics meetups have always grown out of people in the community deciding it would be good to get together,” Murphy said. “It’s great to see that energy in Regina, and we’re happy to support Robert as he gets this event off the ground.”
The first gathering is expected to bring together around 10 to 15 people, with the hope that it could grow into a regular meetup if there is interest from the local community.
Anyone working in GIS, surveying, remote sensing, mapping, or other geospatial fields in the Regina area is welcome to attend.
