Celebrating Canada’s Geomatics Leaders at the National Expo
We are thrilled to announce the winners of this year’s Geomatics Excellence Awards, recognizing remarkable individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to the industry. These winners have demonstrated leadership, innovation, and a commitment to advancing the field of geomatics in Canada and beyond. We would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the public for their thoughtful nominations, which helped shine a light on so many deserving candidates. Here are the recipients of the 2024 awards, as well as the exceptional nominees for each category:
This year’s Game Changer Award goes to Claudia Cozzitorto, President of buildingSMART Canada. Her work has profoundly reshaped traditional practices within the geomatics industry, demonstrating a clear potential for long-term influence. By challenging conventional approaches, Claudia has driven innovative advancements, setting a new standard for future development. Other nominees for this category included OnSite3D, TopoDOT, Balko Technologies, and Ecopia AI, all of whom have made significant strides in pushing the industry forward.
The Innovation Award honours Carina Butterworth, Geomatics Instructor at SAIT. Her contribution stands out for its successful implementation, demonstrating great potential for positive industry-wide benefits. Nominees for this award also included Alexander Beaulieu, Stephane Germain, Ecopia AI, and the SlimGim Maturity Model, each of whom has showcased outstanding ingenuity in advancing geomatics solutions.
This year, the Public Sector Focused Award is awarded to Natural Resources Canada (GeoAI) for their exemplary work in leveraging geomatics to benefit citizens and the public sector in Canada. Other notable nominees in this category included Taylor Geospatial Institute, York Region’s Analytics and Visualization Branch, GeoNB, and GeoHub, each bringing transformative solutions to the public sector.
Natural Resources Talk at GeoIgnite 2024: Geospatial AI : Leveraging Artificial Intelligence in a national mapping context
Dave MacLean, GIS Faculty at COGS, is the recipient of the Leadership Award for his outstanding leadership within the geomatics community. Not only has he mentored and supported emerging professionals, but his influence has also been pivotal in advancing collaboration and innovation. The category featured other strong nominees, including Carina Butterworth, Dr. Nadine Alameh, Will Cadell, and Steve Hung-Ling Liang, each recognized for their dedication and contributions to advancing leadership in geomatics.
Each of these winners exemplifies excellence in their respective fields, and we celebrate their achievements in helping to shape the future of geomatics.
