March Social – with guest Dr George Bevan!

March 20, 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

George Bevan currently teaches in the Dept. of Geography and Planning at Queen’s. He has worked extensively in Jordan, Bulgaria and the Republic of Macedonia in recent years to implement new workflows for mapping cultural-heritage assets. He will be discussing a project funded by the USAID’s Sustainable Cultural Heritage Through Engagement of Local Communities Project (SCHEP) that builds local capacity in Wadi Rum, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Jordan. The project trains locals to use mobile GIS data collection workflows — ESRI Collector and Survey 123 –to record the stability of rock-art panels using the Rock Art Stability Index (RASI), an innovative scoring system that accounts for both human and natural factors in rock-art decay, and is expressly designed for use by non-specialists. George will share some of his experiences implementing multi-lingual (English and Arabic) GIS workflows in this remote area.

The Kingston GoGeomatics Group meets every month to talk about GIS, remote sensing surveying, technology, education, training, jobs, and much much more! We welcome everyone in all areas of geomatics and look forward to seeing you there!

Please RSVP to let us know you’re attending.
