Guest Talk: Caribou Habitate Disturbance Mapping with PostgreSQL & QGIS
• What we’ll do
Geoff Andrews of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) will speak about his current project regarding Caribou Habitat Disturbance.
Project Description:
“As part of an Open-Source Initiative within the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, this project seeks to replace processes developed through ArcGIS model builder and python (ArcPy) script tools with more stable PL-SQL functionality within the PostgreSQL/PostGIS environment. The goal of this work is to produce a tool that can process large datasets and produce provincial output data for uptake into scientific modeling for Ontario’s northern research and habitat mapping. “
Geoff works with the Provincial Geomatics Service Centre at the MNRF. In the two years he has worked with a variety of software as a part of his role. He worked previously for Trent University’s Maps, Data, and Government Information centre for a year long contract before begining contract work with the MNRF. He is a graduate of Fleming College (2015) as a GIS Application Specialist.
