Amina Deiab Profile:

Amina Deiab is known as an agile executive leader and catalyst for change.

Amina spent the first 15 years of her career in business development across Canada and the U.S developing unproductive sales regions into high-growth markets.  Amina has founded and led two successful companies.

In 2010, when conducting a feasibility study for a not-for profit organization  to develop a social enterprise to diversify the organization’s revenue streams, Amina encountered many legislative and policy constraints on Canadian charities seeking to develop hybrid-business models. That experience spurred an interest and passion that has remained to this day to design and develop policy that stays abreast of and spurs business innovation, rather than hinder it.

In 2013, Amina joined the Government of Alberta and has worked at the intersection of large scale economic development , strategy, policy and governance. Key initiatives have included designing the governance structure and providing oversight to the execution of Alberta’s Petrochemical Diversification Program, a $500 million royalty credit program resulting in over $6 billion in new gas value-chain investments in the province; assessing project potential for developing new refining capacity in Alberta;  and leading an economic policy and statistical branch that developed strategies, and legislation to increase market development and growth in Alberta’s tech sector. Amina is currently the Chief of Staff to the Deputy Minister of the Policy Coordination Office in the Government of Alberta.

Amina volunteers with not-for profits across Alberta to teach organizations board governance, and has advised and mentored start up companies on developing corporate governance playbooks and instituting governance structures, including advisory boards, to bring companies to the next turning point in their evolution.

Amina holds the ICD.D designation from the Institute for Corporate Directors and has a Master’s Degree in Public Policy, specializing in Innovation, Science, and Energy Policy from Carleton University.
