GeoIgnite 2026
May 12 and 13 in Ottawa
The Canada Maps and Poster Gallery is one of the signature community programs at GeoIgnite, Canada’s national geospatial leadership conference. GeoIgnite brings together government, industry, academia, and thought leaders from across the country to discuss the future of geomatics, earth observation, GIS, mapping, and digital infrastructure.
The gallery is central to that mission. It gives public sector teams, private companies, academic groups, and independent creators a national platform to showcase their best mapping and data visualization work. It is one of the most visible and community driven elements of the entire conference.
We are building a small volunteer team to lead this program for GeoIgnite 2026. We are recruiting four volunteers: two focused on outreach to the public sector and academia, and two focused on outreach to industry and the private sector. This gives strong coverage and ensures reliability.
This opportunity is ideal for early career and mid career professionals who want to build their network, gain visibility, and take on meaningful responsibility at a national event.
What You Will Do
You will help promote the gallery, reach out to organizations and individuals across your assigned sector, and assist with setting up and supporting the gallery onsite. This includes organizing incoming posters, greeting contributors, and helping maintain the gallery throughout the conference.
The time commitment is light. You will join weekly check ins starting in January and must be available in person on May 12 and 13.
Travel Note
We are not able to cover travel costs for this volunteer role. Because of this, people based in Ottawa or within easy travel distance will find it easier to participate. A reduced conference hotel rate is available if you need accommodation. The conference is located at Ottawa Conference and Event Centre 200 Coventry Road, Ottawa, ON K1K 4S3, Canada.
Why This Matters
The Canada Maps and Poster Gallery is not a side activity. It is a national showcase that reflects the creativity and technical excellence of the Canadian geospatial community. Your work directly supports GeoIgnite’s mission of advancing geospatial leadership in Canada and helps give contributors from across the country a public voice at Canada’s most important national geospatial conference.
What You Receive
- A free full GeoIgnite conference pass that includes breakfast and lunches
- Access to all GeoIgnite networking activities
- A reduced hotel rate if needed
- Direct involvement and mentoring from the GeoIgnite organizing team
- A reference letter upon successful completion
- An optional career coaching session
- Valuable professional exposure across government, industry, and academia
