About the Role
The City of Ottawa’s Transit Information and Marketing team is seeking a creative and detail-oriented Cartographer to design, produce, and maintain map artwork and geographic materials for OC Transpo. This position supports public-facing transit information and plays an important role in improving customer wayfinding and ensuring consistency in branding and messaging across print and digital platforms.

The role operates in a fast-paced environment with critical deadlines. The successful candidate will apply user-centred design principles, accessibility standards, and strong cartographic practices to deliver clear, effective, and visually compelling transit maps and graphics.

Key Responsibilities
Design, produce, and maintain cartographic and geographic materials for public transit information
Create map artwork and technical graphics for print, signage, web, and digital applications
Develop interactive or motion graphic maps and multimedia products where required
Research geographic and operational data to support map production
Prepare electronic artwork and support production and printing activities
Collaborate with cross-functional teams and maintain documentation, standards, and records

Qualifications
Completion of a three-year community college diploma or a university degree in Cartography, Geography, GIS, or a related field
Minimum of four years of experience in transit map design, cartographic production, or technical illustration for public use
At least two years of experience working with graphic systems and design software

Knowledge and Skills
Strong understanding of cartographic design principles, including colour theory, typography, and symbology
Experience with desktop publishing tools and graphic production workflows
Familiarity with transit mapping, signage systems, and web-based design
Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and meet deadlines
Strong communication skills and attention to detail

Language Requirement
English, oral, reading, and writing
