As the Leader of Utilities Surveying, you will supervise staff involved in complex technical work. You will be responsible for recruiting and hiring, planning and organizing work, providing geomatics engineering oversight, solving technical problems, and ensuring work is completed to meet technical/client specifications, engineering standards and governing legislation. You will also communicate regularly with clients and interested parties, manage the section’s budget, and maintain a safe work environment. Primary duties include:

Key Responsibilities
• Lead, direct and control the Practice of Geomatics Engineering in the utilities sector.
• Manage the delivery of utilities surveying projects, services, solutions, and products.
• Ensure engineering surveys comply with technical specifications and standards and authenticate Engineering Professional Work Products (for example: volume reports).
• Provide expertise and opinions to internal and external interested parties on engineering surveying for utilities projects.
• Manage operations and lead long term strategic opportunities to proactively meet the growing and changing utilities surveying business needs in the Corporation.
• Oversee recruitment and performance management functions as well as provide leadership, staff development, coaching, direction, and assistance to staff.
• Provide technical advice and direction to technical staff and clients to meet project objectives, specifications and standards.
• Oversee divisional strategic activities such as business planning, safety, technology development, project prioritization, process improvement and change management.

Qualifications
• A degree in Geomatics Engineering or Survey Engineering and at least 8 years of relevant professional engineering experience obtained after receiving your P. Eng. designation and a current licensure as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) complete with practicing status OR licensure and practicing status by the first day of work. • Thorough knowledge of geomatics engineering in municipal surveying is essential.
• Applicants must have considerable experience in team leadership roles delivering municipal surveying services.
• Designation as an Alberta Land Surveyor (ALS) is considered an asset.
• Excellent business and political literacy and acumen, change management, strong communication, customer service and leadership skills; and the ability to lead and manage multiple technical projects, solve complex problems, supervise staff and manage conflicting interests and priorities.

Compensation and Benefits
Compensation: Level M2E $151,858 – 189,822 per annum
Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week
Days of Work: This position typically works a 5 day work week, earning 1 day off in each 3 week cycle.
