The Municipal Engineering Student supports the Town of Fox Creek Operations Division by assisting with planning, coordination, and execution of municipal infrastructure tasks and projects. This includes work related to roads, ditches, water and sanitary utilities, GIS development, engineering records management, and municipal asset inspections. The position reports directly to the Director of Operations and provides technical and field support to ensure operational programs and projects are delivered effectively and in accordance with municipal standards, bylaws, and procedures.
This is a term contract working 40 hours per week for a total of up to 20 weeks with a wage of $20.00 per hour.
Key Responsibilities

Provide information and support in the prescribed form with accuracy and timeliness.

Work in close collaboration with members of management and coworkers.

Provide a range of services to management, residents and clients.

Assist with project planning, data collection, and coordination for operations-related work.

Support road, ditch, and culvert assessments and document field conditions.

Assist with water and sanitary utility inspections, locating, and condition documentation.

Support GIS data entry, asset mapping, and development of digital municipal datasets.

Digitize, organize and maintain engineering drawings, plans, and related records.

Assist in drafting municipal bylaws, policies, and procedures under supervision.

Complete municipal asset inspections and contribute to condition assessments.

Prepare summaries, reports, and support documents as needed.

Qualifications
Required

An acceptable Criminal Record Check

An acceptable Driver’s Abstract

A valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License

Enrollment in engineering or a related technical discipline, including civil or mechanical engineering.

Excellent English writing, editing and verbal communication skills.

Clear and professional communication skills to deal with the public, supervisors and coworkers.

Discretion and confidentiality with sensitive matters.
-
Cooperation to work with the management team and support other departments to achieve organizational goals.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in both office and field environments.

Ability to use measurement tools, mobile devices, computers and basic GIS or CAD software.

Ability to maintain accurate records, notes, and documentation of work performed.

Flexibility for participating in modified work schedules as required.
Considered beneficial but not required
-
Coursework or experience in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, municipal engineering, GIS, drafting, or asset management.

Familiarity with municipal infrastructure, utilities, and maintenance practices.

Basic proficiency with GIS, CAD, or digital mapping tools.

First Aid and CPR certification.
