The Opportunity

McElhanney has an exciting opportunity for a Geospatial Technician to join our Laser Scanning Team in Vancouver, BC.

The Terrestrial Scanning team is seeking a Senior Technician to support the coordination of projects, people, and resources while delivering high‑quality technical work across a range of high‑definition survey workflows. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in terrestrial laser scanning, including hands‑on experience with scanning hardware, software, and data processing. They will have a proven track record in a coordination or lead‑technician role, working effectively with internal teams and external partners or clients to ensure successful project delivery.

Important: This is not a GIS or remote sensing role. Only candidates with substantial laser scanning experience will be considered.

What You’ll Do

  • Processing various types of scan data (terrestrial, SLAM, mobile lidar, etc).
  • Conducting and leading laser scan surveys in the field, including setting control with total station and GPS.
  • Learning new software, hardware, and workflows, including topographic feature extraction in CAD, and drone workflows.
  • Coordinating the creation of deliverables from this data, including drafted topographic CAD extraction, 3D models, reports, and other advanced deliverables.
  • Coordinating other members of the scanning team, others across the company, and subcontractors to support the delivery of projects within timelines and budgets.
  • Communicating with client managers and technical staff on project requirements and progress.
  • Time will be spent largely in the Vancouver office with some field work and occasional travel outside Greater Vancouver.

What You’ll Bring

  • Degree or technical diploma in Geomatics / Geospatial / Remote Sensing with at least 4 years of progressive experience in a survey tech role.
  • At least 2 years of experience conducting both the field and office aspects of laser scan surveys.
  • At least 2 years of experience coordinating projects.
  • Experience manipulating and producing deliverables from point clouds.
  • Strong technical understanding and an ability to learn and adapt to new software and workflows.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills, ability to take initiative and exercise good judgment.
  • Valid (or in progress) Class 5 driver’s license.

What Can We Offer You?

The salary range for this position is $62,000 – $94,000 per annum. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual’s education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary/wage range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting. The salary offered will be based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
