Wood is seeking a Senior Geomatics Lead to support major cross-country pipeline and infrastructure projects within our Projects Canada portfolio.

This role is responsible for managing geospatial data and systems throughout the full project lifecycle, ensuring accurate spatial representation of pipeline alignments, crossings, and associated assets. The successful candidate will enable integration across engineering disciplines while ensuring regulatory compliance, data integrity, and alignment with client standards.

The Role

The Senior Geomatics Lead will act as the GIS workstream authority for large-scale pipeline projects, overseeing geospatial strategy, execution, governance, and integration. You will establish and maintain enterprise-level GIS standards, manage multidisciplinary data coordination, and ensure accurate and traceable geospatial deliverables.

This position requires strong technical leadership, stakeholder engagement, data governance expertise, and the ability to manage schedules, budgets, and performance across complex projects.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain GIS data models for pipeline alignment, ROW, crossings, and facilities.
  • Create and manage spatial and non-spatial information using ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online, ensuring traceable lineage and version control.
  • Develop geospatial standards across engineering, environmental, and construction teams.
  • Manage base maps and UTM projections for multi-jurisdictional projects.
  • Maintain dynamic data updates across ArcGIS and AutoCAD platforms to support accurate analysis & reporting.
  • Produce thematic maps, dashboards, and analytical summaries to support multidisciplinary deliverables.
  • Perform complex spatial analysis using geoprocessing tools, including a working knowledge of model builder.
  • Oversee data quality assurance across all project datasets and disciplines, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and compliance with standards.
  • Engage with clients to frame geospatial requirements and recommend fit‑for‑purpose Esri solutions aligned to scope, timelines, and cost.
  • Possess strong understanding of survey data, LiDAR, and aerial imagery to validate and maintain integrity throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Support regulatory submissions by providing accurate attribution and spatial datasets to ensure compliance and data integrity.
  • Act as the GIS workstream lead, owning schedules, budgets, and deliverables, and coordinating inputs across engineering, environmental, and construction teams.
  • Assist in proposal development and cost estimation for GIS scope.

Expected:
•    Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Geomatics or related discipline
•    Minimum 10 years of GIS experience, including Oil & Gas or pipeline projects
•    Advanced proficiency in Esri ArcGIS suite (ArcGIS Pro & ArcGIS Online)
•    Strong understanding of database schemas, data structures, and geospatial governance
•    Expertise in projections, coordinate systems, and UTM management
•    Demonstrated QA/QC experience with large spatial datasets
•    Strong cartographic and analytical skills
•    Excellent written and verbal communication skills
•    Legally authorized to work in Canada

Desirable:
•    Automation and ETL tools (Python, FME, Arcade, ArcGIS API)
•    Experience administering geospatial databases (SQL Server, PostgreSQL)
•    Experience developing analytics dashboards (e.g., Power BI)
•    Experience with ArcGIS Utility Network
•    Experience integrating LiDAR and survey datasets
•    Knowledge of Esri mobile solutions (Field Maps, Survey123) and ArcGIS Online applications
•    Working knowledge of Autodesk/CAD integration and alignment sheet generation
•    Experience supporting business development and GIS scoping
