AGI GeoCommunity ’08 in Stratford-upon-Avon

Monday evening I am
flying to the UK where I will be giving a talk at AGI GeoCommunity ’08.  This year AGIAgi08geocommunitylogo_2

is being held in Stratford-upon-Avon, the birthplace
and resting place of one of my and the world’s favourite playwrights.

An interesting bit of information is that the term playwright
appears to have been coined by Ben Jonson, a contemporary of
Shakespeare, as an insult, since both Will and Ben would have preferred
to go down in history known as poets.  Shakespeare probably would have
preferred that his Sonnets would become his best known legacy.  If you are interested in a very different, completely unpretentious,
introduction to the Sonnets than you may have had in high school or
university, I suggest you download the podcasts by Someguy from NY which you can find either here or on iTunes (if you’re a Yankees fan, you will enjoy Shakespeare’s head wear on iTunes).  Someguy from NY, who was required by the court to remain anonymous, broke someone’s jaw in an altercation in a bar and was sentenced by
the court to prepare line by line
readings and interpretations of the Sonnets as podcasts.  IMHO it is
unfortunate that he stopped at Sonnet 48.
