According to a new report from the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO), all new electricity generation through 2020 in Australia will come from renewable energy through 2020.
Most of the new power will be generated by wind. Utility-scale solar photovoltaics will contribute about 13 %. Nearly 15.8 GW of wind generation projects have already been proposed. About 780 MW of this is expected to added to the grid in 2014-2015.
According to AEMO for the next 25 years coal will continue to be the main source of energy, but in addition to renewables natural gas is forecasted to become more important in Australia’s energy mix.
