Autodesk has announced the availability of a new software product AutoCAD Plant 3D 2010 that is designed to provide 3D model-based design for designing process plants. As its name suggests AutoCAD Plant 3D is built on the AutoCAD platform and uses the DWG file format. It uses specification-driven design and standard parts catalogs to streamline the placement of piping, equipment, and support structures. AutoCAD Plant 3D integrates AutoCAD P&ID functionality and quick generation of isometric and orthographic drawings. Autodesk also announced a new community for plant designers and engineers on AutoCAD Exchange.
