Cisco Forecasts Enterprise Mobile Data Traffic to More than Double Annually

Data quality is a serious issue at most utilities and telecoms and is becoming more critical as we move into the era of intelligent networks such as smart grid.  Field staff in utilities are frustrated by the poor quality of the
facilities maps they receive. They are also
frustrated by business processes that discourage
field workers from providing
valuable information back to records about inaccuracies they observe in
the field or about changes they have made.  Organizations are implementing enterprise mobile solutions that enable field workers to not only have
immediate access to the records database, but enable field
workers to provide valuable updates from the field.  By enabling
field workers to participate in maintaining records data, data quality
can be improved which enables field workers to be more productive.

Mobile Data Traffic to Grow 108% Annually

  • North America 117%
  • Western Europe 106%
  • Asia Pacific 119%
  • Japan 80%
  • Latin America 111%
  • Central Eastern Europe 114%

CiscoEnterpriseMobileApplications Enterprise Mobile Applications to Grow 126% Annually

According to Cisco, one of the key contributors to the growth of mobile data traffic is enterprise mobile applications such as tracking of vehicles, assets and personnel, real time location of multiple devices and automated location based alerts.  Traffic from enterprise mobile applications is expected to grow by 126% CAGR from 90 PB in 2009 to 3.6 EB per month by 2014.
