Digital Globe buys into the oil and gas geospatial imagery market

DigitalGlobe, one of the first companies to offer commercial high-resolution earth observation imagery from several satellites (Quickbird, Worldview-1, Worldview-2, and GeoEye), has acquired Spatial Energy, which provides digital imagery and related services to the energy industry.

Spatial Energy provides digital imagery, imagery processing and analytical services to the oil and gas industry Spatial Energy Spatial__logo__webworldwide.   Spatial Energy acquires, processes, and manages an extensive collection of high resolution satellite and aerial imagery, topographic maps, and digital elevation models (DEMs), which is available on demand from their extensive data archives, by tasking satellites and aerial providers, and by speculative collection.  Typical ways that Spatial Energy’s data is used by energy companies includes

  • mapping monitoring of ground features like roads, well locations, facilities, property boundaries, utilities;
  • seismic planning;
  • new wellplanning and spotting; site development;
  • facilities analysis and monitoring,
  • pipeline construction and monitoring,
  • environmental impact and
  • hazards assessments,
  • view shed analysis
