There are new reports that IBM
 is closer to acquiring Sun Microsystems.  

An interesting thought is that this acquisition would give IBM MySQL,  by far the most popular open source RDBMS, to add to its other databases, DB2, Informix and DB2 Express.  Some folks see Oracle, MySQL, and SQL Server as the three major players in the desktop/web RDBMS market.
