An outstanding FOSS4G annual conference has wrapped up here in Barcelona. As part of the final session Tyler Mitchell, Executive Director of OSGEO, reported the latest statistics on the OSGEO community. There are now 15,000 subscribers to OSGEO maintained mailing lists. OSGEO has 40 local chapters around the world. Since its founding in 2006, 657 people have committed code to OSGEO projects. Of these 300 were active in the last 12 months, which indicates an exceptionally high degree of active participation in the 20 OSGEO projects.
Lorenzo Becchi, the chair of the organizing committee, reported the final attendance figure for the conference. This year FOSS4G had 869 registrants, which is really a remarkable achievement. This year’s organizing committee deserves congratulations for a very well-run and engaging event.
Next year FOSS4G 2011 will be held September 12 – 16 in Denver, Colorado, and some people are projecting that 2011 registration will exceed 1000.
