Since my last post on Unit 2, Beyond Nuclear has received a translated report that Unit 2 has now lost all cooling to its reactor core. According to NISA, all mechanisms to cool the reactor were completely lost at 13:25 JST today (00:25:00 Monday March 14 Eastern Time). Since the internal pressure continues to be high, venting is being considered.
Fukushima Daiichi Unit 2’s emergency core coolant system (ECCS) had been working throughout Sunday, March 13 (U.S. East Coast time). But apparently that has now been lost.
If it is decided to vent, then as with Units 1 and 3, there is a risk of an explosion.
