According to Oak Ridge national lab (ORNL) Carbon Dioxide Information Analysis Center latest estimates of emissions from fossil-fuel combustion and cement manufacture suggest that 2010 was a record year for CO2 emissions. Globally over 33.5 billion metric tons of CO2 were emitted into the atmosphere in 2010, about 5.9% over the 2009 global estimate. The largest contributor to this increase was China where emissions were up 10% over 2009. In 2009 41 percent of emissions were due to China and the United States.
- 2008 8748 teragrams carbon
- 2009 8626
- 2010 9138
The largest contributors to total CO2 emissions were coal, liquid fuels, and gas combustion. CO2 emissions from coal increased 7.6 % over 2009.
