Green Stimulus Program In China

As reported in Barron’s of the approximately US$600 billion that China is planning to spend as part of its economic stimulus program, US$30 billion or about 5% of the stimulus could be allocated to renewable energy, including solar and wind.  In addition the money would be intended to support projects that involve environmental protection, increase energy efficiency and decrease energy consumption.

According to Geology  wind energy
generation worldwide increased by 28.8% in 2008 and now exceeds 120,800 MW.  The largest markets in 2008 were the US and China. Wind power generating capacity increased by 50% in the US in 2008.  The total capacity in the US is now 25,170 MW, which makes the US number one in wind power, followed closely by Germany.   China doubled its installed capacity in 2008 and has reached a total of 12,200 MW.
