At OSCON, Microsoft announced that it had submitted 22,000 lines of driver source code for inclusion in the Linux kernel under a GPLv2 license. The code comprises four drivers for Linux Device Driver for Virtualization and are designed to provide hooks for Linux to run on Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V hypervisor. The code contributed by Microsoft is available as part of the Linux kernel public release and is expected to become part of the 2.6.30.1 stable release and the December 2.6.32 main release. Microsoft also announced that it is a platinum sponsor of the Apache Software Foundation. Apache now has three platinum level sponsors including Google and Yahoo.
