I blogged previously about Vancouver’s ground breaking decision to open the city’s data to public access. Vancouver has just launched a new version of the City’s Open Data web site.
Compared with the initial launch in September, this version has significant improvements.
- There is more data, approximately 100 layers of data in all. Much of it is from VanMap.
- The data is available in more formats. Almost all is available in DWG, SHP, and KML, while some is available in CSV and XLS.
- Much of the data can be displayed in Google Maps or Bing Map with a single mouse click.
- In support of the Integrated Cadastral Information Society (ICIS), two data packages have been created specifically to meet ICIS specifications to make it easier to accept and distribute Vancouver data.
