Another very important initiative that has happened in the last few months is the formation of Open Source for America (OSFA) which is focussed on promoting open source software within the US federal government and which has clearly been motivated by the Open Government Directive and other open initiatives of the Obama administration as well as the prevalence of open source within certain departments such as the Department of Defense. It is hard to think of a well-known name or organization in the open source world that is not involved with the OSFA. Supporters include Google, the Linux Foundation, Oracle, AMD, Canonical/Mark Shuttleworth, Red Hat, Tim O’Reilly, Eben Moglen, SugarCRM, and the list goes on.
The OSFA has created a number of working groups including Geospatial, Energy and Transportation, and others.
