Jean Thie of EcoInformatics has identified the longest beaver dam yet, 850 meters, just south of Lake Claire, about 190 km to the north northeast of Fort McMurray (of tar sands fame), inside Wood Buffalo National Park, Alberta. Evidence of the dam goes back over 15 years. It is observable on 1990 LandSat 7 imagery, but not on 1975 aerial photos. The dam was found using with Google Earth and Digital Globe data from October 2, 2007 and measured with the Google Earth measuring tool. You can view the dam in Google Maps.
