Upcoming GITA 2007 Panel

There is going to be a very interesting seminar and panel discussion on Mapping Applications on the Web: Evolution or Revolution on Sunday March 4th at the annual GITA conference in San Antonio.  The speakers have been finalized and include

Peter Battey, CTO of Intergraph, will talk about “The Disruption of Geospatial Technology” and
will discuss how the geospatial industry has radically changed over the last few
years and the impact this has had on traditional GIS vendors.

I’ll talk about open source
geospatial software, open standards and how Web 2.0 technologies can help utilities and telcos address address the challenges of field force automation and of the aging field force.

Bill Gail, a member of Microsoft’s Virtual Earth
team, will talk about the dramatically increased availability of spatial data  and its impact on the geospatial industry, and what is on the horizon from the Microsoft Virtual Earth team.

Charlie Savage, who is moderating the session, will talk about social mapping – using the web to
create mashups, share data and create communities of users.

The last 40 minutes of the seminar will be a question and answer discussion. If you’ve got a point of view on what’s happening in the geospatial sector, this is your opportunity.
