U.S. Federal Government to source 20% of its electricity from renewables by 2020

President Obama has signed a Presidential Memorandum on Federal Leadership on Energy Management.  It directs the Federal Government to source 20 % of its electricity from renewable sources by 2020.  Currently about 7% of the electricity the government uses is renewable. 

Since 2009, when President Obama directed signed Executive Order 13514 on Federal Leadership in Environmental, Energy, and Economic Performance, the Federal Government has:

  • Reduced greenhouse gas emissions by more than 15 % from FY 2008 levels
  • Reduced energy use per square foot in Federal buildings by more than 9 % since FY 2008
  • In FY2013 is getting 7 % of its electricity from renewable energy sources such as solar and wind.

Prior to Autodesk Geoff was Director of Product Development at VISION* Solutions. VISION* Solutions is credited with pioneering relational spatial data management, CAD/GIS integration, and long transactions (data versioning) in the utility, communications, and public works industries. Geoff is a frequent speaker at geospatial and utility events around the world including Geospatial World Forum, Where 2.0, MundoGeo Connect (Brazil), Middle East Spatial Geospatial Forum, India Geospatial Forum, Location Intelligence, Asia Geospatial Forum, and GITA events in US, Japan and Australia. Geoff received Speaker Excellence Awards at GITA 2007-2009.
